Barack's organization in Pennsylvania is unlike anything I've ever seen -- but it's about to be put to the test.
« Thread Started on Oct 24, 2008, 8:48pm »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Barack's organization in Pennsylvania is unlike anything I've ever seen -- but it's about to be put to the test.

With 11 days until Election Day, the McCain campaign has made its electoral strategy perfectly clear -- it all comes down to Pennsylvania. "The election hinges on Pennsylvania," a top McCain advisor told CNN on Monday.

McCain and the Republican Party are throwing a barrage of misleading "robocalls" and advertisements at the voters of Pennsylvania, and there's only one way to fight back. We need supporters in neighboring states to take a short trip to come out and give us a hand between now and Election Day.

Out-of-state volunteers are going to be crucial to meeting McCain's challenge. Sign up to volunteer in Pennsylvania any time between now and Election Day.

Organizers here are working day and night to win this crucial battleground state. But to pull it off, they're counting on the time, energy, and passion of supporters in neighboring states who share their commitment to Barack's message of change.

That's where you come in. We're running strong in Pennsylvania. Our challenge is to keep it that way.

Our strength is due to the hard work of volunteers and organizers on the ground. My family and I have done everything we can -- knocking on doors, talking to voters, and even taking a bus trip through Northeastern Pennsylvania last weekend. But the only way to keep it up and take McCain's last-minute challenge head on is if you get involved.

We've come too far and too close to let up now. Our state could be the difference between bringing about the change we need or four more years of the same failed policies. John McCain knows that, and we need to fight back.

Sign up to come to Pennsylvania and take on some volunteer shifts in this final stretch:

Thanks,

Senator Bob Casey

I don't have to tell you how important this election is to our country. But I do want to tell you one thing that will make a tremendous difference for Barack Obama and Joe Biden as we go forward: A filibuster-proof Democratic Senate majority working by their side.

I don't have to tell you how important this election is to our country. But I do want to tell you one thing that will make a tremendous difference for Barack Obama and Joe Biden as we go forward: A filibuster-proof Democratic Senate majority working by their side.

Now, reaching the filibuster-proof 60 votes isn't going to be easy. There are a lot of races that are just about as close as they come. Let me tell you about three must-win races where you can help put Democrats over the top.

In Minnesota, Al Franken has faced some of the worst negative attack ads we've seen this cycle, but he's got a great shot of picking up this seat for Democrats.

In Kentucky, Bruce Lunsford has the chance to kick the Republican's Senate leader out of office - and you'd better believe the GOP is putting everything they've got into this one.

And, Jim Martin is running a race in Georgia that everyone thought was a long shot, but recent polls show the race neck and neck. If you help him keep his momentum going, we can add this one to the Democratic column too.

These races are all dead heats, and all in Republican territory that we can capture. And you better believe that Republicans are shifting their resources to deliver their most offensive, over-the-top attacks into these states. It's up to us to make sure Al, Bruce, and Jim have the resources they need to fight back and win.

Help give Barack Obama a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate by contributing to Al, Bruce, and Jim's campaigns today.

I don't think it will surprise you that Hillary and I talk about the Senate races all the time. After all, she'll be working every day with the winners next year.

I know that these three races are critically important to her -- and they should be to you, too. It isn't just because they're so vital to our chances of getting 60 votes in the Senate. It's also because you can make such a difference in all of them and we know that when Democrats work together - we win.

The decision you make right now might be the factor that puts one or even all three of these great Democrats over the top on Election Day. Trust me, I've been in politics long enough to know what a difference your support can make.

Make the difference for Al, Bruce, and Jim -- contribute to put these three great Democrats in the U.S. Senate.

With your help, we're going to have a great day on November 4. So let's keep working for these next 11 days, and then let's win together!

Thank you for everything,

Bill Clinton

Kennedy directs health care talks from sick bed

From CNN Congressional Producer Ted Barrett

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Sen. Edward Kennedy is quietly negotiating major health care legislation — which he hopes will be approved by Congress early next year and signed into law by Barack Obama, should he become president — while being treated for brain cancer, Kennedy’s office said Friday.

The Kennedy initiative — which has been underway since the summer — is meant to pave the way for early adoption of one of Obama’s campaign priorities.

Kennedy is directing the negotiations with a variety of interest groups and the staffs of a bipartisan group of lawmakers. He speaks to them regularly via video conference from his Cape Cod home, where he is recuperating from his cancer treatment.

Poll says race won’t be big factor in vote
Posted: 04:31 PM ET
WASHINGTON (CNN) — A new national survey suggests that race won’t be a major factor in the outcome of the presidential election.

Seven out of ten Americans questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Survey released Friday say that the race of the candidates will not be a factor in their vote for president this year.

That 70 percent figure is up 9 points from July, when the same question was asked. Only 5 percent of those polled say race will be the single most important factor in their choice for president, with 11 percent saying it’s one of several important factors, and 13 percent indicating race will be a minor factor in their vote.

New elections may be in store for Israel
Posted: 09:04 AM ET
JERUSALEM (CNN) — Early elections to chose a new Israeli government appeared closer Friday when the ultra-Orthodox Shas party rejected a bid to join a coalition government headed by Kadima Party leader Tzipi Livni.

Livni must now look to smaller parties, one of whom has already rejected her offer. She said Thursday if she cannot form a government by Sunday, she will ask for elections to be held in 90 days.

The developments further imperil U.S. President George Bush’s desire for the Israelis and Palestinians to reach a peace deal by the time he leaves office in January.

To stay in power, Livni will have to find enough coalition members to give her government a minimum of 61 seats in the 120-member parliament, the Knesset. Kadima now has 29.

Woman jailed who lied about bumper-sticker-linked attack
Posted: 07:54 PM ET
(CNN) — A GOP campaign worker who made up a story about being attacked by a man angered by a John McCain bumper sticker on her car was being held in a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-area jail Friday night, CNN has learned.

Ashley Todd, 20, of College Station, Texas, has been charged with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor, and may face more charges, said Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard at a news conference. Todd is incarcerated at the Allegheny County Jail but had not been arraigned Thursday night.
