Election could decide future
of the federal courts -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
We're right in the middle
of a very narrow voting window that could make the difference
in this election. And we have to act fast. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ohio voters have until this Monday, October 6th, to register and vote early... all in one step. This is an extraordinary opportunity to get the votes we need to win Ohio. And since Ohio is a key battleground state -- and played a pivotal role in the last presidential contest -- winning in Ohio could help us secure a national victory. So what can you do to help Barack win in Ohio? You can help us Get Out The Vote -- and tip the balance in this election -- right from your own living room. Get a list of potential Ohio supporters and their phone numbers right now. Give them a call and make sure they vote early for Barack. Republican officials in Ohio didn't want voters to have this opportunity. In fact, they challenged One-Stop Early Vote in court. They tried to prevent new people from entering the political process. But we fought back, and we won. This is your chance to make a huge difference in a crucial battleground state. Polls in Ohio are extremely close. You can help push us to victory. The calls you make today could change the direction of our country for generations. We have to seize this opportunity -- for our children, our country, and our future. Get your list of potential supporters in Ohio and call them before this narrow three-day window closes: http://my.barackobama.com/n2nOhio There are just 30 days left until Election Day. To win this election, we've got to make sure as many people as possible come out and vote -- and make their voices heard. It's up to you to make it happen. First in Ohio, then in your state. Thank you so much for your support of this campaign. We could never have come this far without you. Now, let's work together all the way through Election Day to bring the change our country needs. Pork and the bailout
bill -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (CNN) Although some provisions of the bailout bill were used as sweeteners to help ensure its passage, many were in fact extensions of current tax laws with broad support in Congress. Each year, some existing tax breaks expire. So, if theyre going to be continued, Congress needs to pass a bill extending them. This year, a struggle ensued between the
Senate and a group of fiscally conservative House Democrats known
as the Blue Dogs not over whether the tax breaks
should be extended but over whether to cover the costs.
The Blue Dogs wanted to offset the costs of the tax
extenders by either raising revenue elsewhere or cutting federal
spending; the Senate version of the bill left the extensions
unfunded. |

Obama blasts McCain's health
care plan as 'radical' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From CNN Political Producer Ed Hornick
Sen. Barack Obama speaks at a rally in Newport News, Virginia, Saturday. (CNN) Sen. Barack Obama, campaigning Saturday in the battleground state of Virginia, lashed out at his presidential rival's plan to tackle health care reform. In a Saturday morning radio address, Sen. John McCain said if elected, his administration would give every family a $5,000 tax credit to buy their own health insurance or keep their current plan. "And we will open up the national health care market to expand choices and improve quality," he said. Obama, speaking at a rally in Newport News, Virginia, said it's not that McCain "doesn't care" about what people are going through, "I just think he doesn't know," he said. "That's the only reason I can think of that he'd propose a health care plan that is so radical, so out of touch with what you're facing and so out of line with our basic values." McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds responded Saturday to Obama's comments. "Our Democratic opponent had the audacity
to call John McCain's health care plan 'radical.' The American
people know radical when they hear it, and John McCain is not
the candidate in this election they should be concerned about." |

Introducing the Obama 08
iPhone App --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With only 33 days left, it's more important than ever to call your friends and family to make sure they are registered and voting for Barack. We are excited to announce another way to help you organize your personal contacts and ask them to "get out and vote." Today, we are launching an official iPhone Application (http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/iphone), a free download for iPhone and iPod Touch users. This tool is designed to help you become more directly involved in our campaign to change our country. The application has a "Call Your Friends" tool that helps you organize your contacts by key battleground states -- a feature we're hoping will generate thousands of additional personal contacts. You can also easily mark reminder notes to yourself on which friends you have called, who they are supporting and who wants a reminder call on Election Day. The information does not leave your phone (so your friends' and your own privacy are protected) but the total amount of calls the application makes are tallied, so you can keep track of your progress as we close in on November 4th. The Obama 08 application (http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/iphone) also includes a tool to make it easy to find your local campaign office. Using your phone's current location, you can easily find a field office anywhere in the country (and even find directions to it using the mapping function). Other features of the application include up to date news from the campaign, video, photos, and all of the issue information needed to use as talking points with your friends when convincing them to register and vote! Please tell your iPhone users (and iPod Touch users) to download this app today. You can download the application here (http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/iphone). And all mobile users you can get news,
updates, videos and more on your phone by texting SITE to 62262
to view our mobile WAP page (http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/external_organizing/gG5F3T). |

New Obama ad to focus nation's
attention on the economy -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From CNN Associate Producer Martina Stewart (CNN) With a month until Election Day, the Obama campaign is trying keep voters attention focused on their pocketbooks and retirement savings accounts. In This Year, the latest in a string of Obama ads with economic themes, the Democratic nominee uses images of locked factory gates and anxiety on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Erratic in a crisis. Out of touch on the economy, the ad says as images of Sen. John McCain getting off an airplane and riding a golf cart appear on screen. The commercial comes amid talk of McCain preparing to adopt a more aggressive strategy in the final month of the general election campaign, first reported Saturday in the Washington Post. Struggling families cant turn the page on this economy, the ad says. The McCain campaign has not responded to CNN's request for comment about "This Year." The new ad will begin airing Monday on
national cable outlets, according to the Obama campaign. |

Obama campaign rejects Palin
'terrorist' gibe -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gov. Palin said Saturday that Sen. Obama
sees America as 'imperfect.' Palin attacked Sen. Obama on Saturday for his brief political relationship with Bill Ayers, a founding member of the radical Weather Underground, which was involved in several bombings in the early 1970s, including attacks on the Pentagon and the Capitol. Obama was a child at the time of the bombings. Obama and Ayers, now a university professor, have met several times since 1995, when both orked with a non-profit group trying to raise funds for a school improvement project and a haritable foundation. CNN's review of project records found nothing to suggest anything nappropriate in the volunteer projects in which the two men were involved. |
