With Super PACs and corporate moguls jostling to cut the largest check to their favored candidate, the 2012 presidential campaign looks to be the most expensive in history. As large sums of money flood the political arena, many are concerned that the demands of average citizens are being swept away in a tsunami of corporate money interests. In light of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling two years ago, corporations are not even required to disclose their donors’ identities to the Federal Election Commission.
Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, however, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has the power to force campaign fundraising groups to publicize the identities of their donors. Sign the petition telling the SEC that we demand transparency in a system currently dominated by secret spending and corporate interests.
No longer can we allow an anonymous and wealthy few to impose corporate interests on the masses. It’s time to reclaim our democracy from the faceless mega donors and super PACs!
