Treasury 5-year yields hit record low

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Yields on 5-year Treasury notes touched their lowest level ever on Wednesday, extending gains that carried U.S. debt prices higher as investors sought safer assets. Yields on 5-year notes , which move inversely to prices, fell 9 basis points to 0.69%. They touched 0.684% intraday, according to data provider CQG, a record low.
