Hoyer Statement on Memorial Day
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of Memorial Day, observed on Monday, May 28:
“On Memorial Day, we pause to remember the fallen – those brave men and women who, throughout our history, fought courageously and sacrificed all to protect Americans and the values we hold dear. To them we owe our rights and freedoms and express our eternal gratitude.
“As we honor their memory, we also thank our veterans as well as those service members who remain in uniform today, in Afghanistan and throughout the world, for their commitment and dedication. We must continue to ensure our men and women in uniform have every tool they need to complete their missions safely and successfully. And we must we honor our commitment to those who have worn the uniform by providing our veterans with the benefits and care they have earned through their service.
“Our prayers this Memorial Day are with the families of the fallen, who gave to our nation what Abraham Lincoln called 'the last full measure of devotion.' In their memory, let us rededicate ourselves to passing along to the next generation an America that is secure in liberty, in prosperity, and in the pursuit of opportunity.”
