U.S. stocks recover; Dow up

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks came off their lows, positioning the Dow Jones Industrial Average for a slightly higher close, as trading wound down Thursday. The Dow was up 8.2 points at 12,501.37, led by Hewlett-Packard Inc. . The S&P 500 was off 1.1 point at 1,318. The Nasdaq Composite performed the worst, down 20 points, or 0.7% at 2,831. Concerns about slowing Chinese growth and a potential Greek exit kept gains limited.
