U.S. stocks gain ground after manufacturing data to 13,252.64

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks gained Tuesday after a gauge of U.S. manufacturing found activity expanded at a slightly faster pace in April. The Institute for Supply Management's index rose to 54.8% last month from 53.4% in March. After holding near unchanged ahead of the report, stock indexes pulled higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 39.81 points, or 0.3%, to 13,252.64. The S&P 500 added 7.67 points, or 0.6%, to 1,405.58. The Nasdaq Composite gained 18.74 points, or 0.6%, to 3,065.08.
