Hoyer Statement on Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House passed the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act:
"The cybersecurity bill passed by the House this evening contains critical provisions that facilitate more collaboration between the private sector, which owns and maintains much of our digital infrastructure, and the cybersecurity experts in our government and intelligence community. I commend Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) for his efforts on this bill; clearly it is critical for our nation to address the cyber threats we're facing. I'm disappointed that I could not support the bill in its current form.
"We need a comprehensive approach to cybersecurity legislation, like President Obama has called for, that would include new authorities to protect critical infrastructure like our power grid and financial systems. I am disappointed that House Republicans have blocked consideration of critical infrastructure during this week's cyber week. I hope that the House will work with the Senate to advance a more comprehensive approach to cybersecurity that includes additional measures including securing our critical infrastructure."
