SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks ended higher Thursday, extending gains for two of the three benchmark indexes into a third day, as a rash of earnings reports and outlooks stoked enthusiasm for share purchases. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 113.90 points, or 0.9%, to 13,204.62, with Chevron Corp. and International Business Machines Corp. adding the most to the index's point gains. The S&P 500 rose 9.29 points, or 0.7%, to 1,399.98. It topped 1,400 intraday for the first time in three weeks. It was the third day of gains for the S&P 500 and Dow. The Nasdaq Composite added 20.98 points, or 0.7%, to 3,050.61.
