Hoyer Statement on Short-Term Surface Transportation Extension
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House passed a 90-day surface transportation extension:
“Last month, the Senate passed a long-term transportation bill with an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 74-22. Instead of following their lead and getting serious about compromise, Speaker Boehner and House Republicans have been unable to coalesce around a long-term plan of their own, potentially placing 2 million jobs at risk.
“We cannot waste any more time in agreeing on a long-term solution on this issue. Now is the time to invest in infrastructure and the jobs those investments will bring. As the critical question of how to invest in America’s transportation infrastructure moves forward after today’s vote, I hope that the bipartisan Senate compromise will serve as the basis for any long-term legislation that addresses our pressing infrastructure needs and helps put more Americans back to work.”
