House calls for payroll-tax talks with Senate
from MarketWatch.com - MarketPulse WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - House lawmakers rejected a Senate-passed bill on Tuesday that would extend a payroll-tax cut, and called senators back to Washington to negotiate a compromise bill. The Republican-led House voted 229-193 against the Senate's bill and to go to conference less than two weeks before the payroll-tax cut expires. Without action before Dec. 31 it reverts to 6.2% on Jan. 1 from 4.2%.
