Foreign Assistance Dashboard Update

Media Note
Office of the Spokesperson
Washington, DC

December 1, 2011

The Department of State, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) are pleased to announce the first major update of the Foreign Assistance Dashboard (www.foreignassistance.gov).
The Foreign Assistance Dashboard serves as a tool for users to understand the impact of U.S. foreign assistance funding by country, sector, initiative, and agency in an easy-to-understand format. The site provides a visual presentation of foreign assistance data in a standard and user-friendly way, and has had over 120,000 visitors since its initial launch in December 2010.
MCC is the first additional agency to add data to the Foreign Assistance Dashboard beyond State and USAID, and the very first agency to publish obligation and expenditure data on the Foreign Assistance Dashboard. The inclusion of MCC’s foreign assistance budget and financial data to the Foreign Assistance Dashboard represents a significant step forward in the U.S. Government’s effort to achieve transparency in foreign assistance. MCC’s first foreign assistance compacts were signed in 2005; the information provided by MCC dates back to 2006 and will be updated regularly.
The Foreign Assistance Dashboard continues to contain the most recent Department of State and USAID budget and appropriation data that, along with the MCC data, can be manually queried, filtered, and downloaded by users for further analysis.
The goal of the Foreign Assistance Dashboard is to give a wide variety of stakeholders, including U.S. citizens, civil society organizations, the Congress, U.S. Government agencies, donors, and partner country governments, the ability to examine, research, and track U.S. Government foreign assistance investments in an accessible and easy-to-understand format. The Foreign Assistance Dashboard enables the United States to take a huge step forward in becoming a leader in aid transparency. Future versions of the site are expected to incorporate budget, financial, program, and performance data in a standard form from all U.S. Government agencies receiving or implementing foreign assistance.
To understand the information presented in the Foreign Assistance Dashboard, users are encouraged to read the supplementary information under the What You Should Know section of the website.
Comments, questions, or suggestions can be submitted through the Contact Us form on the site.
