SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Canadian stocks edged higher Tuesday, with gold mining shares among the biggest gainers as futures prices for gold climbed by more than 2%. The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 0.3% to 12,542.70, with the S&P/TSX Global Gold Index up 1.3%. Shares of Eldorado Gold Corp. rose 1.9% and Yamana Gold Inc. added 1.5%. Financial stocks traded mostly lower, tracking losses in their U.S. peers, with the S&P/TSX Capped Financial index shedding 0.1%. Manulife Financial Corp. saw its stock fall 1.5%.
