General Officer Announcements


Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:
Air Force Maj. Gen. Stephen L. Hoog has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and for assignment as commander, Alaskan Command, U.S. Pacific Command; commander Eleventh Air Force, Pacific Air Forces; and commander, Alaskan North American Defense Region, Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. Hoog is currently serving as commander, Ninth Air Force, Air Combat Command, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C.
Air Force Maj. Gen. Jan-Marc Jouas has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and for assignment as deputy commander, United Nations Command Korea; deputy commander, U.S. Forces Korea; commander, Air Component Command, Republic of Korea/U.S. Combined Forces Command; and commander, Seventh Air Force, Pacific Air Forces, Osan Air Base, Korea. Jouas is currently serving as director, operations, plans, requirements and programs, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.
Air Force Maj. Gen. Brooks L. Bash has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and for assignment as director for logistics, J-4, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. Bash is currently serving as vice commander, Pacific Air Forces, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Mark A. Atkinson has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Atkinson is currently serving as the director, logistics, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va.
Air Force Brig. Gen. William J. Bender has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Bender is currently serving as the commander, U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center, Air Mobility Command, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Brian T. Bishop has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Bishop is currently serving as the deputy director, Politico-Military Affairs (Western Hemisphere), J-5, Joint Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Christopher C. Bogdan has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Bogdan is currently serving as the KC-X program executive officer and program director, Aeronautical Systems Center, Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael J. Carey has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Carey is currently serving as the deputy director, command and control and nuclear operations, J-3, Joint Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Air Force Brig. Gen. John B. Cooper has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Cooper is currently serving as the director, logistics, installations and mission support, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Samuel D. Cox has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Cox is currently serving as the commander, 618th Air and Space Operations Center (Tanker Airlift Control Center), Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Barbara J. Faulkenberry has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Faulkenberry is currently serving as the deputy director, operations and logistics, Headquarters U.S. Africa Command, Stuttgart, Germany.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Russell J. Handy has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Handy is currently serving as the commander, 9th Air and Space Expeditionary Task Force-Iraq, and director, Air Component Coordination Element-Iraq, Air Combat Command, Baghdad, Iraq.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael A. Keltz has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Keltz is currently serving as the deputy director, operations, plans, programs and requirements, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii

Air Force Brig. Gen. Frederick H. Martin has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Martin is currently serving as the director of operations, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Thomas J. Masiello has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Masiello is currently serving as the director, special programs, under secretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, D.C.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Earl D. Matthews has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Matthews is currently serving as the director, command, control, communications and computer systems, Headquarters U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Robert P. Otto has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Otto is currently serving as the director, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, deputy chief of staff for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Air Force Brig. Gen. John W. Raymond has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Raymond is currently serving as the vice commander, 5th Air Force, and deputy commander, 13th Air Force, Pacific Air Forces, Yokota Air Base, Japan.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Darryl L. Roberson has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Roberson is currently serving as the commander, 455th Air Expeditionary Wing, Air Combat Command, Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Anthony J. Rock has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Rock is currently serving as the director, Iraqi Training and Advisory Mission-Air Force, U.S. Forces Iraq, U.S. Central Command; and commander, 321st Air Expeditionary Wing, Air Combat Command, Baghdad, Iraq.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Jay G. Santee has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Santee is currently serving as the principal director, Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Strategic Capabilities), Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Special Operations/Low-Intensity Conflict and Interdependent Capabilities), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Rowayne A. Schatz Jr. has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Schatz is currently serving as the director, strategic plans, requirements and programs, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

Air Force Brig. Gen. Joseph S. Ward Jr. has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Air Force Brig. Gen. Jack Weinstein has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Weinstein is currently serving as the deputy director, programs, deputy chief of staff for strategic plans and programs, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Robert E. Wheeler has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Wheeler is currently serving as the deputy director, nuclear operations, Headquarters U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Martin Whelan has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Whelan is currently serving as the director, nuclear support, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Fort Belvoir, Va.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Stephen W. Wilson has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Wilson is currently serving as the director, joint integration, deputy chief of staff for operations plans, requirements, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Tod D. Wolters has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Wolters is currently serving as the director, air, space and cyberspace operations, Headquarters Air Force Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Timothy M. Zadalis has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Zadalis is currently serving as the director, air plans, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, U.S. Central Command, Kabul, Afghanistan.
