The United States Government congratulates the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic for having requested an Independent International Commission of Inquiry into the June events. We believe that a thorough and objective understanding of the facts regarding the tragic events of June 2010 is an essential component of long-term reconciliation and prevention of future incidents.
As is detailed in the report, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic has cooperated fully with the Commission in its investigation. Furthermore, the United States welcomes the steps the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic has already taken to implement a number of the recommendations in the report of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry. The United States welcomes these initiatives and calls on the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic to take further steps to ensure accountability, promote reconciliation, and prevent any recurrence of similar violence.
The United States continues to support the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in its efforts to rebuild and further stabilize the situation in the south.
