Florida Young Democrats on U.S. Military's Killing of Terrorist Osama bin Laden

Fort Lauderdale - The Florida Young Democrats offered praise late Sunday for the brave men and women of the United States military upon President Obama's announcement that Osama bin Laden, international terrorist, Al Qaeda leader and 9/11 mastermind, has been killed.

For nearly a decade, the United States has been at war in Afghanistan in order to bring bin Laden and his associates to justice for the deaths of more than 3,000 innocent Americans. The effort to capture and kill bin Laden and senior Al Qaeda leadership in Afghanistan has cost the lives of 1,465 American military personnel and more than $400 billion, and has spanned two Presidential administrations.

"Tonight, we give our highest praise and thanks to our American heroes in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines who have all sacrificed - some sacrificing all - in order to seek justice for the attacks on our homeland," said FYD President Hon. Alexander Lewy. "We also thank JSOC, the Joint Special Operations Command responsible for the raid in which bin Laden was killed, as well as the Central Intelligence Agency for providing invaluable information to our warfighters."

The Florida Young Democrats also highly credits President Barack Obama's determination to renew the United States' focus on the war in Afghanistan. FYD echoes, in the President's words, the "extraordinary courage and capability" of our armed forces and counter-terrorism professionals. U.S. Senator Bill Nelson's service on the Senate Armed Services Committee also ensured that our military possessed the strategic and material support necessary for success on the battlefield.

The Florida Young Democrats (FYD) is a youth-led political organization dedicated to educating and turning out young voters in Florida. FYD mobilizes young people under 40 to participate in the electoral process, influence the ideals of the Democratic Party and develop the skills of the youth generation to serve as leaders at the local, state and national levels.
