National Security Strategy: The Future of Defense Spending
The National Security Strategy MiPAL has been updated with Congressional hearings examining the prospects for the future of defense spending and analyzing the roles of modeling and simulation in military readiness, a Government Accountability Office report assessing the State Department's progress in engaging foreign audiences through public diplomacy, a Center for Strategic and International Studies report recommending enhancements of the Department of Defense's ability to translate national security concepts into effective defense programs and budgets, reports from the Congressional Research Service with an overview of U.S. Special Operations Forces (SOF), detailing the costs associated with major U.S. wars, and examining the role of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), a release from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence providing key points on the state of the Intelligence Community in the post-9/11 environment, and a Henry L. Stimson Center report assessing the potential impact of federal deficits on U.S. foreign policy capabilities.
