Coast Guard Oil BP Deepwater Horizon Investigation Hearing
Survivors of the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion are testifying before the joint Coast Guard & Bureau of Energy Management Commission today in Kenner, Louisiana. The commission is holding a week-long series of hearings to investigate the cause of the April 20th rig explosion that left 11 workers dead. This is the third session of hearings intended to collect facts and produce recommendations so the Commission can submit its report to the Coast Guard and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation, and Enforcement.

BP Technical Briefing
Officials from BP conducted a technical briefing to provide an update on response efforts to contain the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. BP said that oil has stopped flowing into the Gulf of Mexico after engineers closed valves on the cap. Testing will continue to determine if the cap can hold the oil without leaking from other locations on the pipe. Engineers will monitor pressure readings for the next 48 hours

National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling, Day 2
The Nat'l Cmsn. on the BP Oil Spill is on the second day of its first public meeting. Today’s discussion focuses on the spill’s impact on communities in the Gulf. Meanwhile, BP is testing a new containment cap on the well that they believe will allow the collection of all the leaking oil. The Interior Dept. announced Monday that they are issuing a second moratorium order to block deepwater drilling after federal appeals court reveresed the first ban.
