Hoyer Statement on Manufacturing Report

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Institute for Supply Management released its report for May:
“Today’s report is a clear sign that Congress must do more to help our manufacturing sector compete. The first step toward doing so is to end the uncertainty these businesses are facing by going to conference on the budget and negotiating a final version that restores fiscal discipline through a balanced approach, replaces the entire sequester, and invests in competitiveness and job creation.
“House Democrats’ Make It In America jobs plan focuses on four ways Congress can spur the growth of jobs: adopting and pursuing a national manufacturing strategy, promoting U.S. exports, encouraging the return of jobs and innovation to our shores, and training and securing a twenty-first century workforce. All four of these core components of our plan are not only designed to be the most effective at helping U.S. manufacturers compete and succeed – they are also aimed at drawing the bipartisan support necessary to pass the House and Senate and be signed into law. I hope Democrats and Republicans can work together to bring Make It In America legislation to the Floor for votes and move forward with a budget process that seeks a balanced approach to reining in deficits, both of which will provide our manufacturers with the certainty they need to thrive and create jobs.”
