Tough Decisions – Paying for Groceries or Bills
Acting Secretary of Labor Seth D. Harris is on the road again to meet with hard-working low wage workers and hear from them about what an increase in the Federal minimum wage would mean for them and their families. Recently, the Acting Secretary traveled to Phoenix, Las Vegas, Baltimore and Akron, Ohio. What is clear in each of the roundtables is that all of the participants face similar tough decisions every day, such as whether or not they can afford food for their family, pay the rent and other bills. Those are struggles that people who work hard and play by the rules should not have to face, and that’s why President Obama is calling for raising the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour to $9 per hour by 2015.
