Senate passes Democrats' budget blueprint
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Senate on Saturday morning narrowly approved a 10-year budget outline authored by Washington Democrat Patty Murray that seeks to trim deficits by $1.85 trillion. The budget, a nonbinding document that has almost no chance of passing the House, would raise taxes on the wealthy and cut domestic spending. Republicans criticize the measure for not balancing the federal budget, and none voted for it. Four Democrats facing potentially tough re-election races next year voted against Murray's budget, which passed the chamber 50-49.
