Hoyer Statement on the Availability of "Make It In America" Challenge Grants
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after the Obama Administration announced the "Make It In America Challenge" grant program was open for applications:
“I was pleased to learn that the Obama Administration opened the application process for its Make It In America Challenge grant program today. This competitive grant program, which is a collaboration between the Departments of Commerce and Labor, will help bring manufacturing jobs and innovation back to the U.S. and enable more people to train for new jobs as our businesses expand. This is the kind of investment House Democrats have called for as part of our Make It In America plan.
“Creating the conditions that encourage the private sector to expand and grow jobs remains a top priority for House Democrats and the Obama Administration, and the Make It In America Challenge will enable more of our businesses to afford investments in worker training and insourcing of operations. In the coming weeks, House Democrats will be announcing our Make It In America priorities for the 113th Congress, and I hope Republicans will work with us to pass legislation that will help more of our businesses, especially in our manufacturing sector, bring middle-class jobs home along with the opportunities those jobs create.”
