U.S. to bolster West Coast missile defenses: WSJ
from MarketWatch.com - MarketPulse
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The U.S. government is preparing to strengthen its missile defense systems on the West Coast as a precautionary measure to counter increased threats from North Korea, the Wall Street Journal said Friday. The Pentagon will boost its ground-based missile interceptors in Alaska and California by one-third and add 14 more systems to the existing 30 already in place, a senior official told the newspaper. North Korea has stepped up its rhetoric against South Korea and the U.S. in recent weeks, going as far as to unilaterally scrap the 1953 armistice. Korea experts see the increased belligerence as North Korea's way of testing the new South Korean President Park Geun Hye.
