Hoyer Statement on Manufacturing Report

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Institute for Supply Management released its report for February:

“Today’s report by the Institute for Supply Management, which shows stronger-than-expected gains for our manufacturing sector, is a further sign that we have made progress. But we have a responsibility to build on this progress and do more to help businesses in that sector compete, succeed, and create jobs. Congress must make job creation a priority, and in particular focus on promoting the advanced manufacturing sector and the innovation and jobs that go with it.

“House Democrats have been focused on finding ways to grow our manufacturing sector, and our Make It In America jobs plan places a strong emphasis on creating conditions that help us compete for manufacturing jobs by rebuilding infrastructure, preparing a highly skilled workforce, and helping businesses access new markets for export. However, until we reach a balanced agreement to replace the sequester and get our nation on a fiscally sustainable path, businesses will continue to face uncertainty. Governing from crisis to crisis is no way to promote an environment that encourages investment and job growth.”

“I hope Republicans will work with Democrats in the months ahead to advance Make It In America bills on the Floor and provide greater certainty to businesses in the form of balanced deficit reduction so that we can build on the manufacturing gains we’ve witnessed in recent years.”
