WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Senate on Wednesday approved the nomination of Jack Lew to be Treasury secretary. Lew, a veteran of Washington budget battles, was formerly President Barack Obama's White House chief of staff and held executive positions at Citigroup. Obama nominated Lew in January to serve as Treasury chief, and the Senate Finance Committee approved him last week. Lew garnered 71 "yes" votes, while 26 senators voted against him.
