U.S. stocks open mostly up after retail-sales data

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks opened mostly higher on Wednesday after data showed that retail sales edged up marginally in January. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was nearly unchanged at 14,019 and the S&P 500 index rose 3 points, or 0.2%, to 1,522.5. The Nasdaq Composite index climbed 9.25 points, or 0.3%, to 3,196.5.
