WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - President Obama on Thursday announced he is nominating Mary Jo White, 65, to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission, seeking to bring to the agency a high-profile former U.S. attorney who supervised the prosecution of mob boss John Gotti and also has experience prosecuting white-collar and securities-fraud crime. "Over a decade as a U.S. Attorney in New York she helped prosecute white collar criminals and money-launderers," Obama said. "In the early 1990s she brought down John Gotti as head of the Gambino crime syndicate. You don't want to mess with Mary Jo." Obama also announced he is nominating Richard Cordray to continue overseeing the recently created Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which writes rule for the mortgages and credit cards.
