Hoyer Statement on Manufacturing Report
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Institute for Supply Management released a report showing that the manufacturing sector expanded in December:
“The report released this morning by the Institute for Supply Management shows new gains for America’s manufacturing sector, including in sector employment, and confirms that manufacturing remains a bright spot in our economic recovery. After a brief contraction in November, manufacturing grew once more last month, and the December 2012 report confirms that our economy overall continued to expand for the 43rd consecutive month.
“While this is an encouraging report, there is still more Congress must do to help our manufacturers compete in the global marketplace and create good jobs here by expanding their operations on our shores. House Democrats’ Make It In America plan invests in growing our manufacturing sector by investing in education, innovation, and infrastructure, all of which can attract manufacturing businesses and help them succeed. It is the comprehensive manufacturing jobs plan we need to ensure that we create middle-class jobs that won’t be shipped overseas. Unfortunately, the bulk of our Make It In America plan did not receive consideration on the Floor during the 112th Congress, and, as the new Congress convenes tomorrow, I urge House Republican leaders to get serious about helping our manufacturers create jobs by working with Democrats to pass Make It In America legislation.”
