WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Senate would not take up legislation if the House makes changes to the bipartisan deal to avert the fiscal cliff, according to several news reports. "The House Republicans have two choices: cut their losses and pass the deal now, or else put up a fight they cannot win and pass the same deal a few days now after being further humiliated," a Senate Democratic leadership aide said, according to the Hill newspaper. House Republicans are meeting to decide how to proceed on the fiscal cliff legislation. Many Republicans have said they would not support the deal and want to add more spending cuts and send it back to the Senate. House Democrats want an up-or-down vote on the Senate deal. House Democratic Leaders Nancy Pelosi said she was confident the deal would pass if Boehner allowed such a vote. She said a strong majority of the 192 Democrats would support the deal.
