WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Senate leaders on Friday said they will work this weekend to try to reach a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff of tax increases and spending cuts, following a meeting with President Barack Obama. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the next 24 hours would be "very instructive" about an agreement, while Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said he hopes to have a recommendation for his fellow GOP members by Sunday. U.S. stocks fell sharply on Friday as a deal remained elusive.
