WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- President Barack Obama is due to meet with congressional leaders on Friday, according to several media reports Thursday. Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, House Speaker John Boehner, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi are expected to attend the meeting. Earlier Thursday, McConnell said he wanted to see a new proposal from Obama to avert the fiscal cliff before deciding how to proceed. A White House spokesman had no immediate comment on the report. Democratic Senator Richard Durbin said that whether the Senate will pass legislation to extend popular tax cuts and avoid draconian spending cuts depends a lot on the White House meeting, according to a report by Bloomberg News.
