NYSE skyrockets on ICE buyout, NASDAQ rises too

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Investors cheered IntercontinentalExchange Inc.'s freshly-announced agreement to purchase NYSE Euronext for just over $8 billion, sending both shares higher. NYSE shares jumped 39%, roughly in line with the price premium holders will get in cash and stock from ICE. ICE shares added 5%. Shares of NYSE rival NASDAQ OMX Group Inc. rose about 3%. In the broader market, the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF added 0.2% and modestly outperformed the broader S&P 500's flat performance.
