WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- House Republican bills aimed at cutting taxes for most Americans and replacing defense cuts are "nonstarters" in the Senate, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday. Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said the Senate won't even consider either measure. Both are due for votes in the House on Thursday evening. Republican leaders say the measures are the best fallback option in case they can't reach a fiscal-cliff deal with President Barack Obama.
