U.S. stock indexes rise on optimistic budget talk

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks turned higher Friday after House Speaker John Boehner voiced belief that the so-called fiscal cliff can be averted. The Ohio Republican voiced the sentiment following talks at the White House. "If these guys can leave the meeting today with a sense of optimism" that would help, said Jack Ablin, chief investment officer at BMO Private Bank. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 28.29 points, or 0.2%, to 12,570.67. The S&P 500 index climbed 3.51 points, or 0.3%, to 1,356.84. The Nasdaq Composite added 3.84 points, or 0.1%, to 2,840.7.
