Bureau of International Information Programs Coordinator Dawn L. McCall Travel to Rangoon and Naypyitaw

Bureau of International Information Programs Coordinator Dawn L. McCall will travel to Burma from October 22-25.

Coordinator McCall will meet with senior Burmese officials in Naypyitaw, and will participate in a book donation to the Parliamentary Library together with Ambassador Derek J. Mitchell. The U.S. Embassy in Rangoon is donating these books at the request of the Burmese Parliament, and the collection consists of 200 titles focusing on parliamentary procedure, democracy, constitutional law, state building, elections, legislating, development and civil society. The U.S. Embassy donation will be supplemented by a collection of books on parliamentary process and related governance themes provided by The Asia Foundation through its Books for Asia program. Asia Foundation President David Arnold will participate in the ceremony.

Coordinator McCall will attend programs at two American Spaces in Rangoon, interacting with young patrons interested in learning about America. She will also take part in a ceremony with Embassy officials recognizing the Asia Foundation’s book donation to the Embassy’s Baldwin Library, which lends books to more than 170 community libraries across Burma.

The American Center in Rangoon is one of the busiest American Centers in the world and offers the Burmese public access to books and information at its Baldwin Library, opportunities to study English through classes and self-study materials, and a variety of other educational and cultural programs.
