CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Los Angeles County Assessor John Noguez was arrested Wednesday and charged with bribery and corruption, the Los Angeles Times reports. The bust comes after an investigation into influence-peddling in his office that began last year. Noguez, elected to the agency's top job in 2010, has long denied any wrongdoing. But investigators for the Los Angeles County district attorney have been looking into secret tax breaks given to scores of wealthy property owners since he took office, the newspaper noted, while also probing complaints from employees who said they were pressured to lower property taxes for clients of Noguez contributors.
