from MarketWatch.com - MarketPulse
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- John Varley, the former chief executive at Barclays Bank PLC , is among those being investigated by British regulators for payments to Qatar's sovereign wealth fund, according to the Sunday Telegraph newspaper. Varley is one of four current or former executives being probed by the Financial Services Authority over fees paid in 2008 to the sovereign wealth fund, which took part in a $17.5 billion refinancing of the British bank, the paper reported. The probe into whether sufficient disclosures were made also includes finance director Chris Lucas, the report said. Barclays last week confirmed a criminal investigation into payments between it and Qatar Holding.
