Hoyer Statement on New Obama Administration Manufacturing Partnership

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, a private-public partnership announced today by the Obama Administration:
“I commend the Obama Administration for continuing to make manufacturing revitalization a top priority by announcing a new National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute in Youngstown, Ohio. This public-private partnership will begin laying the groundwork for the National Network of Manufacturing Innovation the President proposed earlier this year and remains an important part of House Democrats’ Make It In America jobs plan.
“With our manufacturing sector having just experienced two straight months of contraction after two years of encouraging growth, we must do more to keep up the momentum and help American manufacturing carry forward our economic recovery. Democrats’ Make It In America plan will do just that, investing in education, innovation, and infrastructure in a comprehensive effort to help our businesses expand and hire more workers here in this country for quality, middle-class jobs that won’t be shipped overseas. Innovation must be a core component of our manufacturing strategy, and a National Network of Manufacturing Innovation will bring managers, manufacturing workers, academics, and government leaders together to identify best practices and help manufacturers turn their ideas into products they build here, grow here, and sell here and around the world.
“I call on House Republicans to end their obstruction and allow Make It In America bills to the Floor. Our manufacturers need the certainty that will come from passing a comprehensive plan to invest in growing jobs and helping our businesses compete.”
