NRC ASSIGNS NEW RESIDENT INSPECTORTO OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR PLANTNuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the Region I office in King ofPrussia, Pa., have selected Amar Patel as the Resident Inspector at the OysterCreek nuclear power plant in Lacey Township, N.J. He joins Senior ResidentInspector Jeff Kulp at Oyster Creek, which is operated by Exelon Nuclear.Most recently, Patel was a Resident Inspector at the Hope Creek plant inLower Alloways Creek Township, N.J. He joined the agency’s Region I staff in 2002 after earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Drexel University inPhiladelphia. After completing the NRC’s Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program, and a rigorous NRC inspector qualification program, he was a reactor inspector at plantsthroughout the Northeast. “Amar Patel has the training, experience and commitment to safety that will help theNRC carry out its mission of protecting people and the environment and ensure Exelon continuesto safely operate Oyster Creek,” said NRC Region I Administrator Bill Dean.Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors.They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Residentinspectors can serve for up to seven years at any one site.The Oyster Creek resident inspectors can be reached at 609-693-0702.###
