Poll: Health care passage motivates voters Posted: March 30th, 2010 04:45 PM ET Passage of the recent health care reform bill has motivated voters on both sides, according to a new CNN poll. Washington (CNN) It seems the passage of health care reforms into law has united the country in one way: It's sparked enthusiasm by both Democrats and Republicans to vote in this year's midterm elections, according to a new national poll. |

Obama
to enact changes to new health care bill The signing ceremony at a community college in northern Virginia will culminate almost a year of fiercely partisan debate and a tortuous legislative journey on the proposals generated by Democrats and unanimously opposed by Republicans. Due to a shifting political landscape, Democrats eventually needed the separate bill being signed Tuesday to make changes in the original legislation in order to get the overall package passed by Congress. Among other things, the so-called "fixes" bill significantly expands health insurance subsidies for lower- and middle-income families while watering down a tax on expensive health policies. The bill also increases the overall cost
of the health care reform legislation to $940 billion over the
next 10 years, $65 billion more than the original health care
bill Obama signed into law last week. |
Democrats
Stable After Health Care Push "After steering the landmark health-care reform bill through Congress, the Democratic Party's leaders have emerged mostly unscathed," according to a new Washington Post poll, "but they have not received a notable boost in approval ratings." |
Anti-Government
Rhetoric Could Cost Republicans Seats Contrary to historical trends, the Houston Chronicle notes one of the toughest challenges facing U.S. Census officials is "not from counting the traditionally undercounted groups such as African-Americans and Latinos. Instead, a new and growing threat to an accurate national head count is coming from anti-government conservatives who may not fill out their forms to protest against 'Big Brother' in Washington." |
Americans
Don't Back Repeal While a new CNN/Opinion Research poll finds 56% of Americans disapprove of the new health care reform law, just 47% agree with the Republican strategy to repeal major provisions in the bill and replace them with new ones. |

Good morning, We've launched the Tax Savings Tool at WhiteHouse.gov to make sure as many Americans as possible know about and take advantage of the array of middle class tax refunds passed in the Recovery Act last year. With a few simple questions, the tool generates a printable checklist anyone can use to make sure they don't miss out on any of the benefits they may be owed. Did you know, for example, that 95% of
working families have been getting money in their paychecks in
2009 from the Recovery Act's $400 to $800 a year Making Work
Pay tax credit - and will continue to in 2010? For families across the country, maybe
including yours, these tax cuts have provided the incentive they
need to make energy-saving improvements to their homes, finally
get a new car, or buy a home for the first time. All of that
is helping to jumpstart the economy and provide more clean energy,
manufacturing and construction jobs for working families, contributing
to the 2 million jobs the Recovery Act has created or saved since
it passed. Sincerely, |
