MARCH
FOR HEALTHCARE REFORM DAY SIX: WRITE TO CONGRESS
Friend --
Great news: This weekend's events were
a huge success. OFA volunteers all over the country helped tens
of thousands of voters in key districts speak out for reform.
Phones have been ringing off the hook in
Capitol Hill offices for days, but with everything on the line
and so little time left, we have to bring our voice to Congress
through every possible channel.
So today, OFA supporters are taking the
next step in the Final March for Reform: Writing to Congress.
Using our online tool, it just takes a few minutes to write and
send your own letter directly to Rep. Paul Tonko.
Right now, Congress is under attack from
insurance lobbyists who are trying to drown us out, so we've
set a goal of 217 letters from Schenectady to make sure our message
breaks through.
Can you help? Get started here.
In the days ahead, we'll keep you up-to-date
on the latest news on health reform as it breaks -- so keep checking
your email. But right now, please make sure supporters of reform
in Congress continue to hear our thanks for their efforts --
and that everyone hears their constituents' overwhelming support
for reform. Click here to write your letter:

Thanks for making it possible,

Retailers'
weekly sales rise 3.2%: survey
from MarketWatch.com - MarketPulse
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Chain-store sales for the week ended
March 13 rose 3.2% from the year-earlier period, according to
a survey released Tuesday by the International Council of Shopping
Centers and Goldman Sachs. On a week-over-week basis, sales fell
0.4%. "Despite the wrath of Mother Nature in the Northeast,
consumers were not deterred in unleashing a little of their own
pent-up demand, especially early in the week-which helped to
offset the weekend weather drag on sales," said Michael
Niemira, ICSC's chief economist. "As the industry heads
into the last two weeks of the month retailers should see a lift
from the earlier Easter that may further accentuate the uptick
for the month of March." He forecast March sales to rise
3% to 3.5%.

Good morning,
1 -- in every six dollars in the U.S. economy
is spent on health care today.
If we do nothing, in 30 years, 1 out of every three dollars in
our economy will be tied up in the health care system.
Skyrocketing health care costs aren't just
crippling the U.S. economy -- they're emptying the pocketbooks
of American families. If we do not enact health insurance reform,
individual and family spending on premiums and out-of-pocket
health care costs could increase 79 percent in just 10 years.
Bottom line: the cost of doing nothing is too high. The
time is now to reform our broken health care system.
1 is just the latest number in 'Health
Reform by the Numbers,' our online campaign to raise awareness
about why we just can't wait any longer for health insurance
reform. Help spread the word by forwarding this message to your
friends, family and online networks.
Let's get
it done.
Sincerely,
Nancy-Ann DeParle
Director, White House Office of Health Reform

Hoyer Statement on the Obama Administrations
Elementary and Secondary Education Act Blueprint
WASHINGTON, DC House Majority Leader
Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on
the Obama Administrations Elementary and Secondary Education
Act (ESEA) Blueprint:
The Obama Administrations Elementary
and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Blueprint is a significant
step toward ensuring that all American children can receive a
world-class education. Our nations prosperity and economic
strength is directly linked to our ability to prepare students
to compete in todays global workforce; we will do that
by creating strong state-developed standards and accountability
systems. It is important to recognize and reward schools that
make real progress in raising student achievement, just as it
is important to focus our assistance and attention to effectively
turn around the lowest-performing schools. We must, however,
remain vigilant to ensure that all schools are working to close
the pernicious achievement gap.
I am pleased that the Administrations blueprint emphasizes
the full-service community school model that I have long supported
as an effective way to provide comprehensive services to students
and families so that children can reach their full potential.
I look forward to working with Secretary Arne Duncan and Chairman
George Miller as we move to reauthorize the ESEA.

Statement
from the Department of Health and Human Services Regarding the
Decisions of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in the Omnibus
Autism Proceeding
As these latest cases illustrated, there's no doubt that autism
and autism spectrum disorders place a heavy burden on many families.
We know that autism and related disorders are conditions that
present many special challenges to all families touched by these
disorders. That is why the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services provides services to families with family members with
autism spectrum disorder and continues to support research to
better understand risk factors and causes of autism spectrum
disorders and develop more effective methods of treatment.

Re-Elect Ezra to Newark City Council.
--------------------
Subject: Re-Election a Success!
Hello friends,
Thank you very much for all the support
you have given me. Today was the filing deadline and as of COB
today, no one else filed for the 5th district council seat. I
will be sworn in for a second term on April 20 for a second two-year
term. I am excited for the opportunity to continue to serve my
district and community.
I am committed to community and to making
sure Newark reflects strong community vitality, environmental
sustainability, and good governance. As financial difficulties
continue to confront our government and community, we need to
look forward for new paths that will keep intact and enhance
our community; we cannot continue doing things the same way we
always have. I will continue to advocate and be a voice and vote
for decision-making that reflects our community's values and
a governance shift towards inclusion and collaboration. If you
would like to learn more about what I plan to work on during
the next two years, my platform is available at http://www.ezratemko.com/platform/
In other quite positive news, council recently
unanimously voted to sign on to the U.S. Mayor's Climate Protection
Agreement. We will have a celebration of this in April and I
will be in touch soon to let you know the details.
Thanks again for your continued support!
All the best,
Ezra
