MARCH FOR HEALTHCARE REFORM Days 3-5: THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE

Friend --

The Final March for Reform is going strong -- yesterday, OFA supporters made the phones ring off the hook in Congressional offices on Capitol Hill and across the country. But for every member of Congress, there are eight anti-reform lobbyists swarming Capitol Hill -- and the upcoming vote is still too close to call.

So in these crucial, final days, we must make sure the voices of constituents break through the lobbyist attacks. And here's the plan to make it happen:

As the next step in the Final March for Reform, OFA supporters like you will be gathering at volunteer phone banks across the country. We'll be calling supportive voters in critical districts nationwide, asking them to reach out to their representatives and express their strong support for reform. A local OFA organizer will be on hand at every event, and no experience is required.

Here's how to join in: First, find and RSVP for an event near you. Before you go, make sure to invite friends to come with you, or help them find an event in their area on our website. Then join with local supporters at your event and reach out to as many voters as you can -- each call makes a vital difference.

As we speak, insurance-industry lobbyists are deploying from their emergency base at the D.C. Ritz-Carlton, banging down the door of every Congressional office on Capitol Hill to derail reform and preserve their ability to jack up premiums and deny care to those in need.

In the old Washington, that would have been an unstoppable barrage.

But thanks to your unprecedented organizing, the lobbyists have finally met their match: the American people.

So let's get out there, and make sure the people's voice is heard.

Please sign up to join the Final March for Reform event in your area:

Let's finish this,

Pennsylvania Young Democrats.

--------------------
Subject: A new kind of organization in PA

Hey Everyone,

Sorry for sending a few emails at once, but we were holding somethings back since we had an event this week.

Below is a message from Josh McNeil, Executive Director of Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania. This is a topic many of you have expressed interest in previously and I encourage you to reach out to Mr. McNeil. His email is joshua.mcneil@conservationpa.org.

MESSAGE:

In 2010, Pennsylvania is facing environmental challenges unlike any it has faced before. Drilling companies are flocking to the state, hungry to drill thousands of new wells to reach its massive natural gas deposits. Their process pollutes millions of gallons of water and poses a dangerous threat not only to the surrounding areas, but to the drinking water of everyone in Pennsylvania.

More frightening, these gas drillers are currently the top political contributors to Tom Corbett, one of the leading candidates for Governor in 2010.

These drillers pose a threat to Pennsylvania’s health and safety for generations to come and we’re going to need a new kind of solution to deal with them. Unlike most environmental organizations, the new Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania is organized as a 501(c)(4) organization with an affiliated PAC, meaning that we can participate directly in elections, lobby legislators without limit, and bring a different set of tools to the project of protecting Pennsylvania’s environment.

Other environmental groups work to change the minds of our legislators and we’ll be there to support their efforts. The difference is: if that doesn’t work, CVPA will be there to get rid of those legislators in the next election.

We’re a new organization with a new board of directors, a new staff and a tremendous amount of energy, but we’re built on a successful model used by the national League of Conservation Voters for 40 years and by similar organizations in 33 other states. We’re ready to get started, but we’re going to need your help.

Today is a particularly important day for CVPA as we launch our website and begin to make ourselves known. To help get us started, an anonymous donor has agreed to match any contribution we receive before the close of business on Monday, March 1 up to $5000.

Contribute $100 now and your donation will be worth twice that. Thanks to you, on Monday, we’ll have enough cash in the bank to start building a cleaner, healthier Pennsylvania.

Please contribute at http://www.conservationpa.org/donate.html

Thanks for helping us get started. We look forward to working with you in the future.

Sincerely,
Josh McNeil, Executive Director, Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania

Please note: Because Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania is a 501(c)(4) organization, contributions to CVPA are not tax deductible.
