Air Force Personnel Center accepting
applications for test pilot school
RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas The
next annual Air Force test pilot school selection board will
convene Sep. 28-Oct. 2 at the Air Force Personnel Center here
for classes beginning in July 2010 and July 2011. Officers interested
in applying should submit their applications to AFPC by Aug.
14, 2009.
The U.S Air Force test pilot school
is the worlds preeminent fixed-wing test pilot school,
said Howard Peterson, AFPC Special Flying Programs personnel
technician. Graduates of TPS are in high demand in an era
of increasing technology advancements on the battle field. Graduates
also have a profound influence on the designs of future combat
capabilities and ensure mission suitability for use in the field.
TPS trains pilots, combat systems officers,
and military and civilian engineers to develop, test and evaluate
the newest aircraft and weapons systems. The selects will fill
positions in the fighter, multi-engine, helicopter and/or unmanned
aerial vehicle categories. Rotary wing pilots and engineers will
conduct testing on the latest rotary wing systems to include
CV-22 and Special Operations assets.
TPS recently expanded the program to include
a new unmanned aerial system curriculum as part of the Combat
Systems Officer classification.
In addition, Mr. Peterson added,
The U.S. Air Force test pilot school conducts exchange
programs with the U.S. Navy, United Kingdom, and French test
pilot schools to train fixed and rotary wing pilots and flight
test engineers.
New graduates of TPS are awarded a Master
of Science degree in flight test engineering by Air University,
accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Eligible Air Force Officers and civilians may also volunteer
for a joint Air Force Institute of Technology and TPS program
leading to an additional MS in Aeronautical, Electrical, and
Computer Engineering.
Applicants from all aircraft types and
backgrounds must have strong academic and technical experience
and a desire to help develop the next generation of Air Force
weapons systems.
All applications and updates to applications
already on file are due to AFPC by Aug 14. Applications received
after the cut-off date will not be considered by the selection
board.
For additional details on the TPS application process and requirements,
visit the TPS Web site, www.edwards.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=6467
or call the Total Force Service Center at (800) 525-0102. You
can also visit AFPCs Ask Web site and search
for test pilot.

Harris County Young Democrats: Come
to Young Democrats of America National Convention Chicago!
Howdy Y'all!
The Young Democrats of America National Convention is just around
the corner, August 5th-9th, in Chicago, Illinois. It's going

assistance as possible. We're hosting a fund raiser to raise
money for the trip this Friday- http://www.Tinyurl.com/60voteparty
At the upcoming convention, YDA will elect
new national officers. Unfortunately, Texas' own native son,
President David Hardt has chosen not to seek a second term, so
there are two great candidates to check out. For more info on

AHRQ Issues Funding Opportunity Announcements
(P 50)
Dear Colleague:
We are pleased to inform you about a funding opportunity announcement
(FOA) issued on July 6 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
Through RFA-HS-10-008, AHRQ
Developing Prospective Practice-Based Comparative Effectiveness
Research Clinical Registries: Orthopedic Devices, Drugs, and
Procedures (P50), will support the development of a
sustainable, prospective clinical registry of orthopedic devices,
drugs, and procedures. Letters of intent are due by September
4, 2009, and the application receipt date is September 23, 2009.
The goal of developing this practice-based data registry is to
conduct rigorous clinical and scientific research, including
comparative effectiveness and safety research. The registry will
provide evidence regarding the short- and long-term benefits
and harms of implantable orthopedic devices, drugs, and other
procedures. AHRQ anticipates that this type of research data
infrastructure will become a model and basis for developing similar
national registries.
The registry efforts initial focus will be to develop an
infrastructure for data collection and comparative effectiveness
research activities with a concentration on hip and knee replacements.
The applicant is expected to form the core of the registry: a
Research and Data Coordinating Center functioning through the
guidance of the Registry Steering Committee. The applicant is
also expected to develop a registry infrastructure that includes
at least five clinical centers at institutions that perform high
volumes of hip and knee replacements.
The registry will also provide the infrastructure to conduct
multicenter collaborative clinical studies to address effectiveness
and patient outcomes questions as well as emerging public health
issues related to orthopedic procedures and devices. A minimum
of three core research studies are to be included in the grant
application for the orthopedic registry under the P50 specialized
center grant mechanism.
Thank you,
Effective Health Care Program
