Making
the Filibuster a Campaign Issue
"Over the past week, President Obama and his senior aides
have repeatedly cited Republicans' filibuster threats as the
primary reason for the lack of progress on big ticket legislative
items, an early sign that Democrats will seek to use this bit
of legislative arcana against the GOP in the coming midterm election,"
The Fix observes.

Hoyer Statement on Announced Bipartisan
Meeting on Health Insurance Reform
WASHINGTON, DC Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (Md) issued
the following statement today after President Obama announced
his intention to conduct a bipartisan meeting on health insurance
reform:
The Presidents invitation to a bipartisan meeting
on health insurance reform is an opportunity for Democrats and
Republicans to engage on how best to provide greater health care
security for all Americans.
I am hopeful that we can. I reached
out to Republicans on several occasions to solicit their ideas
and feedback last year. I was, however, disappointed that these
meetings did not result in any serious follow through to work
together in a bipartisan fashion.
As the Presidents invitation demonstrates, we are
ready to work with Republicans who are sincere about providing
constructive solutions to our common challenges and willing to
reach bipartisan compromise.
