U.K.
consumer confidence steady in August
from MarketWatch.com - MarketPulse
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- British consumer
confidence held steady in August for the third consecutive month,
research firm GfK NOP said Friday. The firm's consumer confidence
index held at -25, unchanged from July and June and up from -36
in August 2008. Confidence in the "general economy"
over the last 12 months rose three points to -69 from -72, while
the gauge measuring confidence in the economy over the next 12
months slipped a point to -9 from -8 in July. While U.K. consumers
"are still cautious about the economy, they are less depressed
than this time last year," said Rachael Joy, a member of
the GfK NOP consumer confidence team. "Recent reports of
housing market improvements and economic recovery may well be
lifting the public confidence."

goods. Spending rose for the third month in a row. With spending
rising faster than incomes, the personal savings rate fell to
4.2% from 4.5% in June. Inflation was tame during the month,
with consumer prices flat. Excluding food and energy, consumer
prices rose 0.1%. In the past year, consumer prices are down
0.8%, while core prices are up 1.4%.

South Dakota Young Democrats : Help
pass health insurance reform
Sign the pledge: http://yda.org/healthpledge.
From Executive Vice president, Rod Snyder:
Dear Friend,
On Wednesday, in the wake of losing our
biggest health insurance reform advocate, Senator Ted Kennedy,
Political Director Hailey Snow and I, representing YDA met at
the White House with the Administration to learn about the impact
the health care epidemic is having on young Americans.
The White House briefer just said: "November
4th was just the election day. Our victories meant nothing unless
we are able to mobilize young people around meaningful reform
that will help all Americans."
It's as simple as that. We can't afford
to wait on health insurance reform. The White House explained
that health insurance reform is the building block to obtain
momentum for all future issues on the President's agenda. This
is the first major test of our ability to bring about real change.
Will you do your part by taking the pledge
at http://yda.org/healthpledge?
14,000 Americans lose their health insurance
on a daily basis and those fortunate enough to have health insurance
have seen their premiums double. President Obama has asked for
our help. So, the question is: What are you doing to make sure
Congress hears that young Americans are demanding health insurance
reform now?
We need to be writing our legislators,
sending letters to our local papers, showing our presence at
the town hall meetings, and talking to anyone that will listen
about the importance of quality affordable health care. Can you
pledge at http://www.facebook.com/l/;yda.org/healthpledge to
take at least one action to help fight for health care?
This is our first major test. Let's not
fail President Obama, the Americans that voted for change, and
most importantly let's not let ourselves down. Don't sit idly
by and live the rest of your life knowing that you didn't take
the time to do something important for yourself and your entire
generation.
Help pass health insurance reform today.
Take the pledge at http://yda.org/healthpledge.
Regards,
Rod

On August 20, 2009, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD)
met with representatives from the United States Department of
Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the California
Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement (BNE)
to discuss information discovered during the investigation into
the death of Michael Jackson. Based on that meeting and at the
request of the LAPD, the DEA and BNE have initiated their own
independent investigations into matters that the LAPDs
investigation uncovered that may not be directly related to the
cause of death.
The LAPD is the primary investigative agency responsible for
the investigation into the death of Michael Jackson. The Department
will continue to use the assistance of the DEA and BNE as necessary,
and these agencies will continue to cooperate with each other
as their various investigations progress.
The investigation into the death of Michael Jackson is ongoing
and will result in the case being presented to the Los Angeles
County District Attorney for filing consideration. Until that
time, LAPD detectives will continue to meet and confer with District
Attorney representatives.
The LAPD would like to acknowledge and thank the following law
enforcement agencies for their assistance in this investigation:
the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration;
the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement;
the Houston Police Department and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police
Department.
The LAPD will not comment on any further aspects of this investigation.

Young Democrats of Nevada: Health Care
needs your Voice...Will you do your part by taking the pledge?
Below is a message from the newly elected
President of Young Democrats of America, Crystal Strait, explaining
what YDA has created to help get Young activist, like you, engaged
in this health care debate!
Please read her message and then visit
http://www.yda.org/healthpledge
and let your voice be heard!!
Call and write both Senator Reid and Senator
Ensign and let them know that we are paying attention to how
they represent Nevadans in Washington.
Thank you for your continued support and
work,
Heather Brown
President, Young Democrats of Nevada
A note from YDA President Crystal Strait:
Yesterday, in the wake of losing our biggest
health insurance reform advocate, Senator Ted Kennedy, YDA Executive
Vice President Rod Snyder and Political Director Hailey Snow
met at the White House with the Administration to learn about
the impact the health care epidemic is having on young Americans.
Rod sent me this text from the meeting:
"The White House briefer just said: November 4th was just
the election day. Our victories meant nothing unless we are able
to mobilize young people around meaningful reform that will help
all Americans."
It's as simple as that. We can't afford
to wait on health insurance reform. The White House explained
that health insurance reform is the building block to obtain
momentum for all future issues on the President's agenda. This
is the first major test of our ability to bring about real change.
Will you do your part by taking the pledge?
http://www.yda.org/healthpledge
14,000 Americans lose their health insurance
on a daily basis and those fortunate enough to have health insurance
have seen their premiums double. President Obama has asked for
our help. So, the question is: What are you doing to make sure
Congress hears that young Americans are demanding health insurance
reform now?
We need to be writing our legislators,
sending letters to our local papers, showing our presence at
the town hall meetings, and talking to anyone that will listen
about the importance of quality affordable health care. Can you
pledge to take at least one action to help fight for health care?
http://www.yda.org/healthpledge
This is our first major test. Let's not
fail President Obama, the Americans that voted for change, and
most importantly let's not let ourselves down. Don't sit idly
by and live the rest of your life knowing that you didn't take
the time to do something important for yourself and your entire
generation.
Help pass health insurance reform today.
Take the pledge.
Best,
Crystal Strait
YDA President
P.S. Please encourage your friends and
family to visit http://www.yda.org/healthpledge
and join you in taking this important action.

Fed
to appeal court ruling on naming bank names that have borrowed
under emergency loan programs
from MarketWatch.com - MarketPulse
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Federal
Reserve on Thursday said it planned to appeal a federal judge's
ruling that the central bank must release the names of the financial
institutions that have borrowed money under its emergency loan
programs. The Fed asked the court to delay the release of the
names while the appeal was heard. In a ruling Monday, federal
judge Loretta Preska ordered the Fed to give the names to Bloomberg
News, the agency that had requested the information under the
Freedom of Information Act. In its notice of appeal, the Fed
repeated that releasing the names would harm the institutions.
The Clearing House, a banking trade group, supported the Fed
request, and said a BBC report that English bank Northern Rock
had asked for and received government assistance caused a run
on the bank, the first run on a U.K. bank since the 1860s.
