TOMORROW: Healthcare Reform Townhall
with Senator Sherrod Brown
I received this from our friends at FCYD:
We need a big crowd tomorrow for a townhall
event with US Senator
Sherrod Brown at OSU. If you can take your lunch hour a little
early, we really need to pack the house with healthcare reform
supporters:
Healthcare Townhall
OSU Biomedical Research Center

Wed, August 12th

Have you heard about right wing protesters
disrupting health care
townhall events all over the country, trying to steal the narrative
from our Democratic leaders in Washington who are on the verge
of the
biggest change in healthcare in a generation, and is it pissing
you
off? Now you can do something about it!
Hope you can make it!

Sacramento Valley AIDS Walk/Run
Join Sacramento Stonewall Democrats as
we raise money to fight against HIV/AIDS here in our community!
The Sacramento Valley AIDS Run/Walk(SVARW)
is a cooperative effort among all the HIV/AIDS service organizations.
The Capital City AIDS Fund (CCAF) serves as the fiscal agent
for The Run/Walk. This event has been a successful opportunity
for people in the community to support the agencies that provide
vital services to people affected and infected with HIV/AIDS.
The 2008 Run/Walk raised over $250,000.
All net funds raised stay within the Sacramento Valley area to
provide critical services to those infected by HIV/AIDS. This
year it is more important than ever to help raise funds, as the
Governor has nearly obliterated funding to HIV/AIDS programs
across the state.

Make your Town Hall experience a success:
1. Make a sign. Their signs are homemade
and look like they are real constituents (some of them are constituents,
but some are paid to be there).
2. Positive educational signs work best,
rather than sarcastic ones or nasty ones. Their "facts"
are based in complete Fox-news style ignorance. Remember WE are
the sane, educated side. These rallies are photographed and the
media will print or publish great signs. (Some ideas: Every week,
14,000 Americans lose their health care. No Rush - health care
reform has been on the table since 1949. Reform means choice.
Keep your own plan if you want it. Health Reform NOW. Thank-you
Barack Obama. Everyone deserves Health Care. Health Care for
all - it's the moral option. Jesus would not deny anyone. Every
other modern country insures everyone - why not U.S.?)
The media calls us all "protesters".
If you come with a sign, you will be obvious as a supporter.
Otherwise, they assume you are with the "reform protesters".
Bring a few signs if you can, and give them away to others on
our side.
3. Do not argue with people who are overly
emotional. If you lose your temper, push someone, block their
sign, etc., it makes our side look bad. People are taking photos
everywhere. We chant, we sing, we smile, we look like we know
we are on the side of justice and morality (because we are).
We do not fight, and we don't let them catch us looking like
crazies. Let them look like the crazies.
4. Sing something patriotic. It drowns
out their arguing and tells the world we are there for peaceful
protest. "God Bless America", "We want, we want
Health Care!" ... whatever you like.
5. Bring your camera and post your photos
of supporters and their signs on flicker or facebook or send
them to friends by email. Let everyone know how many health care
reform supporters are really out here.
Surveys show we are the majority. Let's
make the media reflect what is TRUE.

Canadian health care model won't work in U.S.
Posted: August 10th, 2009 03:01 PM ET
Speaking in Mexico Monday, President Obama said a Canadian model
for health care won't work in the United States.
GUADALAJRA, Mexico (CNN) President Barack Obama said Monday
that Canada's government-run health care model won't work in
the United States.
"We've got to develop a uniquely American
approach to this problem," Obama said at the final news
conference of his North American summit with Canadian Prime Minister
Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon.
Opponents of health-care legislation in
the U.S. House and Senate say it will lead to a single-payer
system like the government-run program in Canada, with some warning
the Canadian system means restrictions on treatments and long
delays.
Obama noted the U.S. system is based on
employers providing health insurance for most Americans. Throwing
that out would be too radical an overhaul, he said.

Dear Friend,
Anyone that's watched the news in the past
few days knows that health insurance reform is a hot topic
and that rumors and scare tactics have only increased as more
people engage with the issue. Given a lot of the outrageous claims
floating around, its time to make sure everyone knows the
facts about the security and stability you get with health insurance
reform.
Thats why weve launched a new
online resource WhiteHouse.gov/RealityCheck
to help you separate fact from fiction and share the truth
about health insurance reform. Here's a few of the reality check
videos you can find on the site:
CEA Chair Christina
Romer details how health insurance reform will impact small businesses.
Domestic Policy Council Director Melody
Barnes tackles a nasty rumor about euthanasia and clearly
describes how reform helps families.
Matt Flavin, the White House's Director of Veterans and Wounded
Warrior Policy, clears
the air about Veteran's benefits.
Kavita Patel, M.D., a doctor serving in the White House's Office
of Public Engagement, explains that health
care rationing is happening right now and how reform gives control
back to patients and doctors.
Bob Kocher, M.D., a doctor serving on the National Economic Council,
debunks the
myth that health insurance reform will be financed by cutting
Medicare benefits.
There's more information and a number of online tools you can
use to spread the truth among your family, friends and other
social networks. Take a look:
We knew going into this effort that accomplishing
comprehensive health insurance reform wasn't going to be easy.
Achieving real change never is. The entrenched interests that
benefit from the status quo always use their influence in Washington
to try and keep things just as they are.
But don't be misled. We know the status
quo is unsustainable. If we do nothing, millions more Americans
will be denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions,
or see their coverage suddenly dropped if they become seriously
ill. Out-of-pocket expenses will continue to soar, and more and
more families and businesses will be forced to deal with health
insurance costs they cant afford.
That's the reality.
Americans deserve better. You deserve a
health care system that works as well for you as it does for
the status quo; one you can depend on that won't deny
you coverage when you need it most or charge you crippling out-of-pocket
co-pays. Health insurance reform means guaranteeing the health
care security and stability you deserve.
President Barack Obama promised he'd bring
change to Washington and fix our broken, unsustainable health
insurance system. You can help deliver that change. Visit
WhiteHouse.gov/RealityCheck, get the facts and spread the
truth. The stakes are just too high to do nothing.
Thank you,
David
David Axelrod
Senior Advisor to the President
