U.S. and Japan Sign Aviation Safety Agreement

TOKYO — The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today announced a Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement (BASA) between the United States and Japan that allows for the reciprocal certification of aircraft and aviation products.

The BASA was signed by U.S. Embassy Charge d’Affaires ad interim James Zumwalt and Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hirofumi Nakasone. FAA Acting Assistant Administrator for International Aviation Dorothy (“Di”) Reimold signed the BASA Implementation Procedures for Airworthiness with the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau Director for Engineering Toru Miyashita.

“This is a major step forward in the maturing aviation relationship between our nations,” said Acting FAA Administrator Lynne A. Osmus. “We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with our aviation safety counterparts in Japan.”

The air travel market between the United States and Japan was approximately 11.2 million passengers in FY 2008. In FY 2008, Japan was the largest export market for U.S. aerospace products, with exports valued at $8.3 billion. Air traffic levels between the United States and the Asia-Pacific region are estimated to increase by 6.5 percent from 2006 to 2010.

Message from Texas Democrats

Hello everyone. It's been some time since we last talked. I apologize for my absence the last few weeks; I have been busy with UIL Academic competition. In case any of you are wondering I will be competing at the State Competition in Current Issues & Events May 9th. Aside form all of this though, there is much to discuss.
As many of you have already heard, our Governor, in his infinite wisdom, recently made some controversial remarks regarding Texas' sovereignty. These remarks were made to one of the many "Tea Parties" sprouting up around the state, and have been picked up by national media and news outlets. Needless to say, the governor's words have made Texans out to be secessionist lunatics.
Also, President Obama has recently concluded his first 100 days in office. I am happy to say at the end of them, the nation is already looking fantastic. The recession, while not over, is slowly beginning to slow down. Unemployment filings are down, and profits are up. While GM is still suffering, they are beginning to realize what muse be done in order to save their company.
President Obama also recently released CIA memos disclosing the "enhanced interrogation techniques" that were used by agents abroad in dealings with suspected terrorists. It has also been disclosed that while some information was gathered through these means, it was not worth the sacrifice the United States had to make in lowering ourselves to that level.
In conclusion ladies and gentlemen, while much has improved throughout the nation; there is still much to be done. I am very happy in the direction the Democratic Party is heading. We have stuck together, even though we are now the group in control, a feat Republicans' were not able to accomplish. If we can continue this pattern, I am very confident we Democrats will have a long road of success in our future.
If you have any question, or you would lie to speak to me about anything at all, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank You Very Much
Andrew Todd
